Title: Giving Up | Submitted by: dswain | Written by: Doug Swain | Style: Pastoral

If I ever had to succom to the idea of a "higher" being
If I ever wanted to redeem my soul for all sins
If I ever felt that sudden and urgent need
If I ever decided that it was that time

Why something of fiction that's a cause of friction?
Why something intangible?
Why take the word of a book
Why take the leap of faith

When you can go see it for yourself
When you can go find heaven on earth
When you can go grab a piece of God
When you can go and finally set your free

In the pines is where I find my majesty
My royal majesty
A place where there is only mystery
Except for how one could not find such tranquility
When put so clearly and kindly

When the noise of the normal pace of life
The stress, the violence, the confusion, the ignorance
Starts to overwhelm the simple mind
Head for the pines and look out

Head for the pines and look out for orange and yellow leaves
Behind and between a clearing in the woods
Where white sunshine clears the pathway and your heart of darken wood
A fallen log among all this
Will show you symmetry in between the strange and the forgotten

Follow the trees and paths that are less traveled
Clear to you, but seemingly invisible to anyone else
Sit in the clearing you find, more of the white sunshine clearing
And watch those who search and simply wander through
The woods don't lie- they are honest and clear and precise
They can see through people and let you know who cares and who doesn't

And as you traverse to the final part of your walk
Enjoy the waterfall and rocks
In perfect half-life stacked upon one another
And as the water rushes by and soothes you
A serenade of water that could not be matched by angels
Let that be your memory of a peaceful and balanced place
Let your mind remember...

If I ever had to succom to the idea of a "higher" being
If I ever wanted to redeem my soul for all sins
If I ever felt that sudden and urgent need
If I ever decided that it was that time
I would not need a book, or faith
I know where God is, I know heaven on earth
It's out in the pines
And so am I.
