What is Hackpoem?
What isn't hackpoem?! Well, the idea simply behind Hackpoem is to give a centralized place on the internet where writing can be expressed, shared, and explored. Think of it as a blog dedicated to song lyrics, poetry, or just writing where everyone shares and has a part in it.
 
How does it work?
It's a fairly simple system. Firstly, you can select one of the items on the bar above to navigate the website. Home will show you the latest 15 entries from every user on Hackpoem. Browse will allow you to search and find users or entries which interest you. To begin your own postings, simply click Make an Account, provide the information and then log in. From that point, clicking Manage will allow you to edit, remove, or add your own entries. It's as simple as that!
 
What experience do I need?
None! If you're like me, you're not even really that great at writing in general, but you can appreciate self expression or others writings. Sharing is an extremely important and valuable tool to the world, so why not just give it a shot yourself? There's no reason to not give it a shot. And feel free to take your time with coming up with ideas. You won't be banned or kicked off so you can take your time and try to find inspirations from your world or others writings.
 
What are the restrictions?
One of the goals of the website is to try and provide very few restrictions. However, though, your writing should try to avoid being negative. Not that you can't express negative feelings you've had or situations you've been in, but basically there should never be a threatening messages in your writing. Whether it be against a friend (ex one?) or against a race or religion, you should never threaten or intimidate. Again, your writing might want to be positive, but negativity can't always be avoided, and this could be a good place to release some of that. Other than this, feel free to write as you wish. We would also ask to not vandalize the website or harass the network either, if you can
 
Where did you come up with this crap?
I (Doug Swain, dswain) am not exactly sure how we got on this topic, but basically over the past month in our Literature class we have been celebrating poetry month by learning about different styles of poetry (pastorals, haikus, tanka, renga, ode, and so on). Several of my other friends and I had never really been extremely enthusiasitic about poetry until now. Due to the past events over the last school year and the new light we've been exposed to in regards to poetry, we have all been more inspired to try and share these great things we've learned. In that sense, we came up with the idea of creating a blog which we could share and collaborate on different poems. In turn, Hackpoem has been developed, or is in development rather.
 
Is it finished?
Well, from the way people seem to use it, yeah it seems pretty good. Granted, my priorities have changed since I started this site but people still write fairly frequently and that's what is most important. If something is wrong obviously let me know and if something should be added let me know.
